Spain’s Solar Margins Are Tightening — What It Means for Sellers
Spain’s solar fleet just crossed 23% of the electricity mix — and captured prices are now paying for it.

Captured solar prices in Spain fell from €42.28/MWh in 2024 to €29.68/MWh in H1 2026. Zero- and negative-price hours are on track to top 900 this year, up from 797 in 2025. PPA volumes are thinning, and banks are getting more selective about which PV projects they will fund.
None of this is a reason to stop building. It is a reason to build — and sell — more carefully.
From where we sit as developers and M&A intermediaries, value compression at the power-price level does not erase value at the asset level. A project with its grid access secured, its permits clean and its technical diligence done still commands a premium — because the buyer is not pricing hope, they are pricing certainty.
That is the mandate we see most often right now: matching Ready-to-Build and near-RtB solar, wind and storage assets with the owners equipped to hold them through a lower-capture-price market — strategic utilities, IPPs and capital that underwrite on fundamentals, not on 2021-era curves.
The capture-price story differs by market — Iberia is not the Gulf, and the Gulf is not Africa — but the lesson travels: discipline at the development stage is what protects value downstream.
