Aurora Energy Research puts data centre demand across Spain and Portugal at roughly 2.8 TWh today, on course to quadruple to 12.8 TWh by 2030. That is not a rounding error on a grid built for a different century of demand — it is a structural buyer showing up at scale, looking for firm, bankable, renewable-backed power.
As M&A intermediaries running competitive processes for solar, wind and storage assets, we are watching this reshape what “sale-ready” means. The same report flags something we see directly on our own mandates: Spain’s PPA market is mature and liquid, while Portugal’s is still constrained by regulatory friction on generation. A perimeter that is well-structured for one market is not automatically well-structured for the other.
