pv magazine’s “Iberian BESS paradox” piece (24 July) put a name to something we see on the design desk daily: batteries are being built faster than the market signals reward them.

Standalone storage in Spain and Portugal is being sized against ancillary services and arbitrage spreads that shift quarter to quarter, while co-located BESS has to justify itself against a shared grid connection that could otherwise host more generation. https://www.pv-magazine.com/2026/07/24/the-iberian-bess-paradox/

That is exactly why layout and yield work now starts with the storage question, not ends with it. Getting the split right between standalone and hybrid, sizing duration against realistic price-spread capture, and stress-testing revenue stacking before committing capital — that is technical due diligence, not modelling optimism.

In-house design capability is what lets a developer answer whether the storage pencils out before signing anything, not after.
