☀️ Solar’s next economic frontier isn’t a cheaper kilowatt-hour, a recent pv magazine piece argues, it’s finding a use for the kilowatt-hours the grid won’t take. Lazard’s 2026 LCOE+ report still puts utility-scale solar at $40-61/MWh unsubsidised. That was never really the constraint.
⚡ The constraint is timing. The cheapest solar hour is usually the least valuable one, and curtailment and negative pricing are just the visible symptom. The real cost is generation capacity that never gets monetised.
🔋 That’s the design question behind every hybrid cluster we structure: pair generation with storage, and generation with secured grid connection rights, so the asset earns across the clock instead of only at midday. A wind, solar and storage cluster with capacity rights already in hand isn’t valued for its megawatts. It’s valued for when, and how reliably, it can deliver them.
🛠️ We’re seeing the same logic drive Portugal’s storage development activity ahead of the September capacity auction — pairing storage with available grid capacity through a Development Services Agreement, built specifically to capture value the grid would otherwise waste.
