Floating LiDAR buoys now measure Portugal’s offshore wind
Four floating LiDAR buoys are now measuring wind and sea conditions off Viana do Castelo, Leixões, Figueira da Foz and Ericeira.
They’re part of LNEG’s EOLOS.Mar programme — twelve-month measurement campaigns feeding real data into the sites earmarked for Portugal’s floating offshore wind zones, part of the push toward 10 GW of offshore leases by 2030.
It’s a useful reminder of a principle we apply to every project, offshore or on. Modelled wind and irradiance data gets you a business case. Measured data — LiDAR, met masts, a full season of readings — is what gets a project financed, permitted and built without surprises later.
