Why Iberia’s Wind Swings Argue for Multi-Technology Portfolios
Portugal’s wind output jumped 37% week-on-week in the first days of August. Spain’s fell 5.7% over the same seven days.

Same peninsula, same week, opposite direction. AleaSoft’s data also shows Spain, Portugal, France and Germany each set new daily solar PV records in early August — and Iberian prices still rose rather than fell, because the swing in wind output outweighed the extra solar and softer holiday demand.
That divergence is the case for diversification, not a footnote to it. A single-technology pipeline is a bet on one weather pattern. A portfolio that pairs solar, wind and storage — with the correlations modelled at design stage, not discovered after financial close — absorbs a 37-point wind swing instead of being defined by it.
It is also the case for building across markets, not just across technologies. Portugal and Spain move on different wind, rainfall and demand cycles; the Gulf and African markets we work in add sun-hours and load profiles that correlate with neither. Pipeline breadth is a risk tool before it is a growth number.
We build that correlation view into every project at the design stage, because a yield study that stops at one technology is only half an answer.
