An FID headline reads like a single moment, but from a developer’s chair it’s the finish line of years of unglamorous technical work: wind resource measurement, layout micrositing, energy yield modelling, and enough grid and permitting diligence to survive a lender’s due diligence team.
That’s the stage where in-house design capability earns its keep — turning a permitted greenfield site into a bankable one is a different skill set than winning the permit in the first place, and it’s where most projects that stall actually stall.
We see the same pattern in Portugal, the UAE and across our African pipeline: capital is patient with early-stage risk, but only when the technical case behind a project is airtight before FID, not scrambled together after.
Onshore wind doesn’t get the attention solar and storage do right now, but decisions like this one are a reminder that the fundamentals — wind, land, grid, and disciplined engineering — still decide which projects actually get built.
