Spain’s Power Price Tops €200/MWh for First Time Since 2022
Spain’s wholesale power price broke above €200/MWh on 6 October for the first time since December 2022 – a daily average of €201.99/MWh, peaking at €281.31/MWh between 9 and 10pm.

The detail that matters for our sector sits inside that same 24 hours: the cheapest hour of the day was still €147.09/MWh, with solar compressing the midday price as usual, while the evening peak was set by higher gas costs feeding the hours after sunset.
That gap is the clearest argument we see, day to day, for storage-backed and hybrid assets in the Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) sale and acquisition processes we intermediate. A standalone solar portfolio captures the midday compression; a solar-plus-storage or wind-plus-storage asset can also monetize the evening spread – and buyers are pricing that difference into what they will pay.
We are seeing it directly at the negotiating table: counterparties now ask less “what is the capacity factor” and more “what is this asset’s exposure to gas-indexed hours, and how is that hedged in the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).” Price volatility is turning hybridization from a nice-to-have into a bankability test.
For developers deciding when to add storage, and for buyers underwriting that decision in an acquisition, a day like 6 October is a useful data point, not noise.
