DNV’s 351MW Galp deal shows what renewables M&A due diligence now demands
DNV has just advised Galp on the technical due diligence behind a 351 MW acquisition of 17 operating Spanish onshore wind farms from Helia Funds.

Seventeen sites, each under different contractual and regulatory frameworks, assessed within a compressed timeline: site inspections, energy yield reviews, turbine technology evaluations, remaining useful lifetime analyses, permitting checks, and a repowering-potential assessment for every single asset.
That last point is the one we would underline. As Spain’s wind fleet ages, buyers are no longer just pricing today’s generation. They are pricing tomorrow’s repowering optionality, and that requires technical rigour most transaction timelines do not budget enough time for.
This is exactly where renewables M&A stands or falls. We run competitive, non-binding-offer processes on both sides of these deals — sell-side and buy-side — across Portugal, Spain and increasingly the Gulf and Africa. The pattern holds everywhere: the quality of technical due diligence, not the headline price, is what determines whether an acquisition creates value or quietly destroys it three years in.
Matching an asset to the right owner is not a matching exercise. It is an underwriting exercise dressed as one.
As portfolio consolidation continues across Iberia:
How much technical due diligence is enough before you would sign?
